The Ricoh GR III is a Bag of Hot Cheetos. Quasar With Fries: Episode 8
Sometimes the best camera isn’t necessarily the one that’s with you.
Wayne Grayson • Nov 01, 2024
In this episode of Quasar With Fries, two cameras enter, one camera leaves.
Not really, but that got your attention, right? Anyway, what really happens is Wayne and Rich have an in-depth discussion that really centers around the axiom “the best camera is the one you have with you.” These days, we are absolutely spoiled when it comes to tools for taking photos and videos. The thing is, “taking a photo” means one thing to one person and it could mean something entirely different to another. When one person takes a photo they might prioritize convenience or ease of use. Meanwhile, another person might prioritize control over the look of the photo or having buttons and dials to hone that control in to the fullest.
So, Rich and Wayne specifically discuss the new iPhone 16 Pro and Wayne’s experience with both that phone and the Ricoh GR III, a delightful pocket camera that makes taking incredible photos very easy. Because, to be honest, even with the new iPhone’s Camera Control button and new software features like Photographic Styles, if you’re serious about taking photos, the iPhone can be a real letdown in many situations. That’s not to say it’s not a great and very capable camera! But in many situations it’s very…fiddly.
So, what’s the “right” camera to have? That’s what this episode is all about! Get into it.
