Looking at Metadata, Content, Subclips, and Tracks
There are various tabs adjacent to the player that are meant to add metadata, help navigate the contents of the media, browse subclips, and see the source information of the media. We will go over them in detail.
The Metadata Tab
Any information entered into the various fields in the metadata tab will be associated with the media within Kyno and that metadata will travel to your Non-Linear Editing software of choice
The fields are straightforward and self-explanatory but for most editors, the use of ratings and Tags are most beneficial. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do this but in general, you and your team can create a universal language that each editor understands so things are easy to find within Kyno and NLE of choice.
Having a universal language can be very simple. Here is an example.
The shot below is an over the shoulder shot of a female talent that is working on a laptop, and it looks like she’s in a chat supporting someone.
Some tags that your team can come up with for this clip would be things like
Location, Gender, Prop, Time of day, etc.
The Content Tab
The content tab is a great way to see your media displayed with keyframes of the entirety of the media. This allows you to see what the video clip entails and you can jump from one portion of the clip to another by simply clicking on the thumbnail that are linked to a timestamp in the video.
A great use case for this tab is looking over a single shot with multiple takes in it or looking at a deliverable which consists of multiple shots, this helps give you a quick peek at the file without having to play through it.
The Subclip Tab
A subclip is metadata describing a specified time range within a clip and it can be created by setting an in and out point on the video and pressing the S key on your keyboard.
As you review footage, especially long takes, it often proves to be useful to create subclips when working with larger files.
The subclip tab shows all of the subclips for that piece of media.
You can play, edit, delete, and export your subclip by right-clicking over the subclip and selecting your option.
