Why OWC

We know how important data integrity and reliability is because our team is filled with filmmakers, photographers, musicians, designers, influencers, and parents just like you wanting to capture, present, and preserve that irreplaceable moment. We also understand your need for more speed and capacity when it comes to making everything more efficient in the content creation process.

So, we sweat the details so you can work with 100% confidence. Our Atlas memory cards are pushed to their limit in the highest settings of high-end cameras under challenging environmental conditions to ensure they will flawlessly deliver the speed and data integrity you need when you only have one chance to capture the moment. Our Envoy, ThunderBlade, and ThunderBay storage solutions go through countless hours of ongoing development testing and certification processes and then are subjected to extreme real-world abuses. We do all this because your craft, reputation, and faith in us are too important to treat casually.

A professional shoot can be costly and time consuming between planning and execution, so the worst nightmare of dropped frames, jittery playback, or corrupt files are simply not an option. OWC products are passionately made by content creators for content creators because we want to create solutions we ourselves would use and that’s why workflows and hardware ecosystems are so important to us.

The bottom line to all this is we’re the only manufacturer that has thought out and addressed every aspect of a workflow ecosystem that you can depend on every single time you are on set, in the field, or at the studio.

Joe McNally

Award-winning photojournalist, director, author, and advertising photographer that has shot five National Geographic cover stories, seven LIFE Magazine covers, and covered four Olympic Games for diverse clients like ABC television, Sports Illustrated, and TIME magazine.

“This Business Is All About Confidence.”

A Completely Dependable Ecosystem

To move fast and stay with the action in the field, Joe shoots straight to 1.0 terabyte Atlas Ultra CFexpress 4.0 cards. At the end of the day, he uses the Atlas CFexpress 4.0 card reader to compliment the Atlas card speed so he can immediately download to his desktop. After doing a quick review, he transfers to three Envoy SSDs to ensure the take is safe. Back in the studio, he utilizes ThunderBay Flex 8 as his main drive to provides an additional layer of backup.

“The benefit of working with OWC is that I feel very very secure with my data. This business is all about confidence. OWC cards, readers, and drives is an ecosystem you can plug into that is completely up to the task and very dependable.”

René Huemer

Concert tour photographer and visual storyteller for iconic bands like Phish, Dave Matthews Band, My Morning Jacket, and Black Pumas as well as record labels such as Warner and Universal Music Group.

“Out on the road, there’s no time for any errors.”

The Contributions to a Very Fast and Stable Workflow

Dependability is a must for René when he’s under extreme pressure to capture events like Phish’s annual New Year’s Eve tour at Madison Square Garden. Think Broadway show with many different elements that each only appear for a few seconds. He also likes to create stunning visuals using in-camera multiple exposures which require fast write speeds.

“The combination of Atlas memory cards, Atlas reader, and Envoy Pro SSD drives contribute to a very fast and stable workflow that is very important when you’re out here on the road with no time for any errors.”

Renan Ozturk

Commercial and documentary filmmaker, expedition climber for The North Face, and photojournalist for National Geographic.

20 years and I’ve never had a failure.

The Unsung Hero No One Ever Talks About

Shooting stills, time-lapses, and video with multiple cameras simultaneously in remote locations in extreme conditions is just another day at the office for Renan. He uses gear harder than most people and does things with them he knows he shouldn’t. He also knows being prepared with the right gear helps him come back with what he needs for a story. That’s why he feels having products like the 32TB ThunderBlade, 2.0TB Atlas Ultra CFexpress 4.0 cards, and the Atlas CFexpress Card Reader is the difference between doing your job really well or barely doing your job.

While camera technology continues to progress, really it’s the drives and cards that’s helping us save sleep and really accomplish more in these really remote locations. It’s the unsung hero that no one ever talks about. We’ve been using OWC products and drives for almost 20 years and I’ve never had a failure.

Nick Cahill

Award-winning outdoor adventure filmmaker, photographer, and National Geographic cover creator

The Formula One Car of Memory Cards and Drives

Nick takes cameras where most people wouldn’t venture to give others the opportunity to experience something remarkable. From film stories of extreme sports to stunning images of remote landscapes, he creates massive terabytes of data in unforgiving conditions like moisture and dust.

Because he values speed and durability, Nick utilizes an OWC end-to-end workflow consisting of 2TB Atlas Ultra CFexpress Type B cards, the ultra-fast Atlas FXR Card Reader, the Thunderblade RAID SSD, and Envoy Pro FX portable SSD.

“Time is the one thing money can’t buy. So if you can save it in one way or the other, it’s important. I’m a car guy, so I look at memory cards and SSDs like cars. I used to use the Honda Civic of drives. But now I use the Formula One car of drives with OWC.”

Adrian “AP” Porter

Producer, engineer, programmer, and sound designer for VMA winner Lil Wayne, AMA winner Toni Braxton, and Usher’s SuperBowl halftime show.

“If this doesn’t work, nothing else matters.”

The Most Vital Piece to Million Dollar Productions

For his portable rig, Adrian relies on Envoy SSDs for storage and the Thunderbolt Go Dock which allows him to connect one cable to his computer, turn on the power, and have everything ready to go, including IOs, converters, drives, and controllers.

In his studio and live setup, Adrian’s session work is all on the Flex 1U4. Multiple SSDs are configured in a RAID, additional hard drive storage provides redundancy, and the Flex 1U4 also connects external displays. All peripherals are interfaced via the 14-Port Thunderbolt Dock to ensure stable throughput without losing information.

“If this session goes down, that’s millions of dollars and the artist’s show potentially being cancelled. So it has to be flawless. That’s why I use these OWC products because of the stability they provide me. It’s probably the most vital piece of the show because if this doesn’t work, nothing else matters.”
