Low-cost, premier Internet Service Provider (ISP) OWC.net, and parent company Other World Computing, headquartered in Woodstock, IL, supported the efforts of McHenry County 4-H Club members at the 2006 McHenry County Fair by purchasing two animals at the livestock auction Aug. 5.
The Internet provider purchased a steer that was raised by Seth Kearns, Huntley, a member of the Huntley Pioneers 4-H Club. OWC.net paid $2,102 for the 1,168-pound steer.
A hog was also purchased by OWC.net from Patrick Douglas, Woodstock, a member of the Hearts to Clovers 4-H Club. The 275-pound hog was purchased for $1,100.
"OWC.net and Other World Computing believe in giving back to the community, and supporting the work of young people. Organizations such as 4-H is important to OWC's goal of helping our community continue to thrive," said Other World Computing Logistics Manager Larry O'Connor Sr. "As business leaders in McHenry County, OWC.net and Other World Computing are glad to help young people achieve their goals."
A total of five-percent of sale price of an auctioned animal goes to 4-H to help cover fair and promotional expenses. The remainder goes to the 4-H club member to cover the expense of raising the animal. According to 4-H club guidelines, as part of the learning experience of raising livestock for auction, each 4-H member must keep accurate records of all expenses, which are factored in when the sale price is set.
In its continued support of the local community, OWC.net offers specialized pricing to local individuals and businesses on its national Internet services. Visit www.OWC.net for information.
