This year’s NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, brought all types of innovation and technology to share with the global music, sound, and entertainment industries.
For those who dabble in both music recording as well as video and other types of recording like podcasting and social content, one multidisciplinary highlight from this year’s show were the new announcements from Tascam.
Tascam has unveiled not one, but two, new portable recording devices that can support sample rates up to 96 kHz and 32-bit float bit depth for high-quality capture and playback for all types of music and video applications.
Let’s look at the new Tascam DR-05XP and DR-07XP models and explore which might be right for you and your audio needs.
The Latest From Tascam
Both of these new portable audio recorders should represent some of the best technology that Tascam has to offer, allowing users to capture pro-level audio quickly and easily.
The devices are each small enough to fit into one hand and feature backlit LCD screens that give users access to clear menus and metering for easy and direct navigation. Each recorder is set to come with a standard 2-input/2-output USB-C audio interface and will be usable Mac and/or Windows computers.
As you’ll see below, the only real difference between the two is that the DR-05XP model will feature built-in omnidirectional condenser microphones that are set to withstand higher sound pressure levels, whereas the DR-07XP model will utilize stereo condenser microphones with adjustable A/B or X/Y configurations.
Here are the details, specs, and pricing options for each.

Designed for everything from speech and sound effects to live music and video recording, the Tascam DR-05XP should be a great option for anyone who is interested in capturing two tracks of audio at 32-bit float high-resolution
No external microphones required as the Tascam DR-05XP’s onboard omnidirectional condenser mics are fixed in an A-B arrangement for spacious stereo imaging of your source.
The Tascam DR-05XP should be equally adept in handheld, stand-mounted, or camera-mounted setups and will be able to handle anything from sampling sessions and recitals to interviews and podcasts.
